November 26th kicked off the 2011-2012 OCA BEST Program Show Season!  During the windy final Saturday of November showmen competed successfully in the show arena at the Heart of It All in Lima, Ohio.  Then on the weekend of December 10th and 11th, I spent the weekend with my sister Kayla in Columbus and assisted with the 2011 AGR Holiday Classic.  Best of luck to all participants in the show ring during this season!

Fairfield County Fair- October 12th

My final county fair of my reign as Ohio Beef Queen was Fairfield County.  After a morning drive to Lancaster, Ohio, I arrived in a steady rain and found a dark fairgrounds.  Literally, one of the transformers had blown, and the barns were completely dark.  While the Fairboard worked to correct the problem, Fairfield County Beef Queen, Lindsey Miller, showed me around the beef department and I also got to catch up with Cheyenne Jepson, the 2010 Fairfield County Beef Queen, whom I met with my county beef queen travels.  Additionally before I left, I also met up with Jacquie Keller, the 2010 Ohio Beef Queen.  A final fair to not only catch up with friends, but also a great end to the fair season of my reign!

National Beef Ambassador Program, 2011 – October 1st

Although I only knew a little about the National Beef Ambassodor’s program prior to the first of October, I was very impressed with the entire program after assisting with the selection of the 2012 Ambassadors.  The program is sponsored by the National CattleWomen’s Association and occurred this year in Wooster, Ohio at OSU-ATI in the Schisler Center.  Once selected, the ambassadors travel around the United States representing and promoting the beef industry at multiple events.  Throughout the event I got to meet youth from around the country who enjoy representing the beef industry just as much as I do.  Although our roles vary in differences, the same common goal was interesting to compare on a national level.  The entire contest ran very smoothly and was a very exhilarating day!

Tuscarawas County Fair- September 19th-25th

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting other fairs around the Buckeye state, nothing can beat home!  Our fairgrounds  is located in Dover, Ohio and hosts four days of the fair with beef shows occurring.  Monday was showmanship, where I must post my little sister, Kelsie Hinds deemed the beef showman of showmen!  Wednesday was the market steer show where Grand Champion went to Jeffery Murphy and Reserve Grand Champion to Kelsie Hinds.  Thursday night was the Market Livestock Sale, and Sunday concluded with the second half of the Open Show.  As with any other fair in the state, it was memorable, fun, and of course exhausting.  The third week of September closed a spectacular fair!

This first weekend of September friends Cassie and Kennedy once again ventured with me to the Van Wert County Fairgrounds.   My sister Kayla also met us there, and theyall watched, while I assisted, with the market show.  After presenting awards, we visited the petting zoo and looked through the tractors.  Another longer trip, but very memorable!
